Prize Categories

Prizes will be awarded to works of excellence in the following categories:

Music Composition
Music Composition
For a work of excellence in music composition of up to 10 minutes duration.
  • $500 spending money
  • Performance time in the 8 O'Clock Sharp concert series

The winner of this section in 2008 was Eve Gibson for her song "Between the Lines". 

Visual Arts
Visual Arts

For a work of excellence in the visual arts - sculpture, painting, photography or installation.

  • $500 spending money
  • A dinner for two at "Selah" restaurant in Circular Quay
  • $100 gift voucher from Glebe Picture Frames
  • Exhibition space
The 2008 winner of this section was Danny Bently for his work "Bingihyn Dreamworks". 2nd Prize was awarded to Steve Trupp for "Mornings" and 3rd Prize went to Suzanne Cullen Glass for "Gift of Time".
Picture Book
Picture Book

For a previously unpublished picture book of excellence. Work can include text but must be primarily illustration. Picture books may have any theme you choose. 

  • $1200 towards self publication of the winning work with http://lulu.com or http://www.cafepress.com or similar (approval required c/o GOYA). Winning author would liaise with online publishers, and GOYA will pay publishing costs up to $1200 only.  Please note this is not a cash prize and can be used for no other purposes.  GOYA, the funding body (Uniting Church in Australia Stamp Committee), and Glebe CafeChurch would be recognised on each of the published books.  In the event that no work was deemed of sufficient standard the money will be rolled over for the same section GOYA 2010.  %50 of profits from books sold will be returned to GOYA for ongoing costs of this prize and the broader competition.
  • A picture book donated by Allen and Unwin

The winner of the 2008 picture book section was Hannah Power for her book "In Joyce's Garden".

Performing Arts
Performing Arts
For a work of excellence in dance, drama, poetry,  or other performing art (including music performance), of up to 10 minutes duration.
  • $500 spending money
  • Performance time in the 8 O'Clock Sharp concert series
2008 1st prize was awarded to Chris Mayhew for his choreography and performance of "Barber's Adagio".
Film & Video Production
Film & Video

For a work of excellence in film or video production of up to 10 minutes duration. Works may have any theme you choose.

  • $500 spending money.
  • Finalists may be included in the 8 O'Clock Sharp concert series.
2008 Equal first prize was awarded to Craig Pippen for "The Gift of Art" and John Bennett & John Laidler for "Tracking the Tank Stream".
12 Years & Under
12 Years & Under

For a work of excellence in the visual arts - sculpture, painting, photography or installation - or film or video production of up to 5 minutes duration, by an artist of 12 years or younger.

  • $100 spending money
  • A selection of art supplies from Eckersley's Art
  • A selection of picture books from Allen and Unwin

 

The 2008 winner of this section was Felix Turem for his picture book, "Our Precious Coral". 2nd Prize was awarded to Thomas Edwards for "The beginnings of responsibility".
